"Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" is a song co-written and recorded by American pop rock artist Eric Carmen. It was released as the second unmarried from Carmen'southward self-titled debut solo anthology, the song peaked at number 11 on the The states Billboard Hot 100 chart in June 1976, remaining in the Pinnacle 40 for ten weeks.[1] The vocal reached number 1 on the Billboard Easy Listening nautical chart. In Canada, it was a number-i striking on both charts.[2] [three]
The melody of "Never Gonna Fall in Dear Again" is based on the tertiary movement (Adagio) from Symphony No. ii by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.
On his second solo LP, Boats Against the Current, Carmen had a subsequent Peak xl hit entitled "She Did It", a happy respond to the loneliness and lovelessness described in this vocal and its equally melancholy predecessor, "All Past Myself".
Television functioning [edit]
Carmen performed "Never Gonna Autumn in Dear Again" and his prior hit, "All By Myself" on The Midnight Special television programme on July 23, 1976 (season iv, episode 37). The show was hosted by The Spinners.[iv]

Australian vocalist songwriter Marker Holden recorded and released a version April 1976 as his debut unmarried. The song was a commercial success, peaking at number 13 on the Kent Music Report.[12] [13]
Background and release [edit]
Mark Holden released his debut studio album Dawn in Darkness in 1975. Consisting entirely of original songs, the album was a commercial failure, selling approximately 2,000 copies[14] In April 1976 Holden received a call from Colin Petersen, EMI Music Australia'south A&R, who suggested he cover "Never Gonna Fall in Beloved Again". In his 2017 autobiography, Holden said recording it "was a take a chance for me to have a hit". Holden promoted the song by performing the runway on Countdown, where he performed the track while handing out red carnations to the audience. It became an infamous functioning which led to Holden'due south nickname of "The Carnation Kid"[xv]

Unlike "All by Myself," Carmen's version of "Never Gonna Autumn in Love Once again" was non released in Commonwealth of australia and therefore did non nautical chart. However, Dana reached #31 in the Britain in 1976 with the song.[16] Her British release charted meantime with Carmen's and Holden's versions.
Other versions [edit]
- Frank Sinatra performed the song many times in concert in the belatedly 1970s, nigh notably during the 1976 MDA Telethon. Fond of Eric Carmen'due south songs, he had arrangements made of both this song and "All Past Myself." He never recorded either vocal.
- Tony Burrows covered the song in 1976 with the studio group Magic.
- Castilian singer Miguel Bosé also covered it (in English) in his debut LP Linda in 1977.
- John Travolta covered the song in 1978.
- Tommy Page covered the vocal on his 1991 album From the Center.
